All members of the Abstract Crew are definitely huge Michael Jordan fans. Through my researching of archival MJ moments. I happened to find one of the best Youtube videos ever. Its the 1986 Playoffs: Bulls Vs Celtics. Yess!! The game in which he broke the NBA scoring record with 63 points!! Did I mention that its the entire game! This post is for all those who remember the exact moment in time when this happened. SMH Monumental in basketball history. I hope you enjoy!!!!! Grrr!!!!

We here at Abstract Thought love to support our locals … what better spot in the beautiful city of Philadelphia to hold your meetings than Landmark Americana. Its like an all in one stop, fun … food … entertainment … drinks … Landmark Combo and my drink of choice, Ginger Ale w/ Grenadine (I digress). After this meeting I must say I love my brand. Never a dull moment with the team; be it developing a line, brainstorming on the next event, or debating over the minimal things in life.

ABSTRACT ALBUM REVIEWS/ The Carter IV

So since I did a review on "Watch the Throne" It was only fitting that I took a Listen to "The Carter IV"

After Listening to Wayne's Latest Lp I will some it up in One Word: Good. Let me explain:

The Carter 1 was Awesome, The Carter 2 was weak & The Carter 3 was TERRIBLE!!!

The Issue with Wayne's albums has been the same; DOPE SINGLES BUT WEAK SONGS!!!

The Carter IV Surprised me... I found that I was able to Listen to songs that were not singles and his beat selection was much much better than the Last 2 Lps! Again, Wayne has always had Awesome singles but his album tracks are usually Garbage! Now the Carter 4 is FAR from a Classic- its not even Great (How could it be great when the best tracks on the album don't even have him on them?! ex. interlude & Outro) but a few tracks really spoke to me!!! "Nightmares of the Bottom" and "How to Hate" are awesome and "Abortion" Is INSANE!!!

Tracks Like "MegaMan" and "Blunt Blowin" are weak but they even have some cool Punchlines! Speaking of Punchlines: WAYNE'S PUNCHLINES ON THIS ALBUM ARE CRAAAAZY!!! I would have to say that this album houses his best Punchlines ever... "I'm a Diamond in the Ruff Like a Baby in the Trash" "I'm Good- I'm 1 hunnid Like a Fastball!" "I brought a brand new attitude... The hate is music to me- IVE GOT MY DANCING SHOES!!!" "Sometimes you question things that there are no answers to- But I just Brought a House on I DONT GIVE A FUCK AVENUE!!!" SHEESH I even Like the fact that he went left and did a track like "How to Love"

All in all "The Carter IV" is a pretty good Lp. Not Great and FAR From a Classic but... A pretty good Lp

So it’s about 11:30 am…I’m sitting here at work baffled by the fact that Dwayne Carter’s latest album has sold almost a million copies in the first week of sales in the year of 2011. Am I surprised because its Wayne? No, not at all. I’m surprised because in this digital age we live in, one of the top artist would be blessed to have two albums combine to go GOLD. In 2011 Gold is the new Platinum as far as record sales go. I’m 23...and I still buy albums. People younger than me have probably never had an album on cassette lol. I remember buying Ghetto Fabolous & the Blueprint on 9/11 2001….that was 10 years ago…10 years later people do not buy albums…but simply wait for bloggers who wish to direct traffic to post them. The blame for this can solely be placed upon Sean Parker. Napster destroyed the music industry single handedly. But in my opinion without Napster, there would not have been a platform for ITunes, or any other music sharing app or software. .Do you blame him or thank him? Without him there would possibly not be a iPod…could you imagine living without an iPod?

Abstract Thinkers: Ghostbuster

Recently I had the pleasure of meeting a very interesting group of people. They've named themselves the Philadelphia Ghostbusters and they're "Who Ya Wanna Call". These guys literally suit-up in full Ghostbusters fashion to raise funds for charity. I thought this abstract way of thinking had to be made known especially for the causes which the raise money, one of which is Autism. I asked a few questions, hope you guys enjoy ! Grrrr!

1) Why was this Philadelphia Ghostbusters Chapter Started? How long
has it been in est?

The Philadelphia Ghostbusters began in 2009, when Nate Paro learned of
others in the area who had also made Ghostbusters uniforms and gear.

2) What is the mission of your local chapter?

Originally we got together to share a common interest. Wanting to wear
the uniforms more than just at Halloween and the yearly Wizard World
Convention, we tried our hand at charity walks. We became so inspired
by participating in worthy causes that helping out the community
became a large part of who we are.

3) How many members are in the Chapter, and is it possible for anyone to join?

As of this moment we have over 20 members who participate to varying
degrees. It IS possible for anyone to join as long as they meet the
minimum uniform requirements. We've had people sign up with full
uniforms and gear as well as with nothing but an interest. We point
them in the right direction and some of those members have become our
most devoted. All we require to join is the flightsuit, patches, and
belt.

4) How would you consider yourselves to be "Abstract Thinkers"?

Well I think many people who invest the time and money to create the
uniforms and gear end up with VERY expensive Halloween Costumes. We
used our love of the Ghostbusters franchise, and more importantly the
general public love of the franchise to do some good.
Every so often someone will ask us, "So I don't get it. You look
great, but what does Ghostbusters have to do with (Autism, MS, etc)?
We usually reply, "Well, it got you to stop us, talk to us, take a
picture or two with us, and maybe donate a dollar or two to a worthy
cause!"
If we went to South Street in our street clothes, who'd notice us?

5)How can our readers help you cause?

Several ways! The easiest way would be to check us out on Facebook.
The more people who discover what we're all about, the more
credibility we gain. The more credibility, the more people are willing
to donate to whatever charity we're currently helping. The most
generous way would be to click on one of our links on either the
Facebook site or on our website www.philadelphiaghostbusters.com and
donate to a worthy cause such as Autism Speaks.
I suppose the most hardcore way would be to get involved. Contact
us...join up! It's fun, the public response is overwhelmingly
positive, and besides feeling great by donating your time, you never
know when you'll end up working with the Phillies, meeting the mayor,
walking in a parade, or posing with Dan Aykroyd!

So with the release of the anticipated "Watch the Throne," Abstract Thought's sponsored artist Chase Allen applied the pressure with his release of "On the Throne." Chase took what he felt were the hottest beats from Kanye and Jay's masterpiece and in an Abstract way, ripped them apart!

Allow me to vent for a second for all who care to listen. Anyone who knows the Abstract Thought crew knows that we are die-hard BlackBerry fans. Been fans since the traditional blackberry with the side scroll and push to talk; I can’t even google what the model name is but believe me it was the oldest one. Either way, the point of my random rant is that one of my comrades sold his soul recently…yup you guessed it…he went with an IPhone “You Benedict Arnold !!!” Now don’t jump the gun and assume that I / we are against MAC products, because between being a DJ, graphic design, and my own selfish preference I love MAC products….BUT I’m a Blackberry phone man. Now this may have started off with a meaningless debate of who has better service however we undoubtedly lost that battle, but it quickly transitioned into an ongoing dispute. SMS text vs BBM …. Plume vs. Ubersocial … Instagram vs Blackberry normal pics. I mean the list goes on, but in either case we lay to rest J.Payne’s Blackberry Bold … death of the Blackberry dynasty. For the remaing IPhone supports who will still support Abstract Thougt after this post ... may God Bless You lol ... Be easy folks.

ABSTRACT AlBUM REVIEWS/ Watch The Throne

Anyone who Knows me can confirm that I am a TRUE HipHop Head- I mean you can just name almost any track off of any album and I can begin reciting the Lyrics!!! And now that I have given my Validation for the at hand task Lets Begin:

I think that I can sum up "Watch the Throne" with three Phrases- 1.) Futuristic yet Retro 2.) HipHop 3.) DOPE.

When I heard that Jay & Ye' where working together I expected nothing less than an awesome Musical array- I mean they are among the best in the league!!! Lol

The first question that I'm certain everyone will be listening to find the answer to is "Who will outshine who". In all honesty I would have to say that both Jay & Ye' went in equally but if I had to choose who went harder it would be Jay- HANDS DOWN!!! There are just to many Jay verses on the album that I had to rewind for a second Listen while thinking to myself "HE DIDNT JUST SAY THAT!!!" I mean just listen to the end of "Who gon stop me" The guy went Ballistic!!! Lol

The musical direction of the album is interesting. The track called "Thats my Bitch" has a Public Enemy & Roots sample (I didn't read that- could just hear it Lol). Its as though they stayed consistent with todays sound, pushed the envelope for a new sound & still brought in an older- mid 80's feel... I mean "Made in America" & "Why I Love You" Definitely have a Phill Collins feel and Vibe-DOPE. One thing I also noticed was that weird instrumental outro that they attached to a few tracks... that was just a little overboard Lol.

All in all I would say they did an awesome job on 'Watch the Throne". I can't give it the classic stamp as its too soon for that and a few of the tracks are duds but it is an overall DOPE Album.

For this installment of "Abstract Thinkers", I had to do some chasing down of West Philly, hip-hop artist Chase Allen. It was a No-Brainer to have him for this post, First I believe he is one of the best lyricist to come out of philly in past few years, Second to me he represents a form of hip-hop which has been washed out for a while "RAW Lyricism", and Third he just happens to be one of our sponsored artist lol. 1. So who exactly is Chase Allen?
-I am a hip hop artist from West Philadelphia, dedicated and devoted to music and willing to risk everything in pursuit of my dreams!

2. As the self proclaimed “leader of the new school”….. Why do you feel as though you are obligated to put out a certain level of “music” for those who follow you?

-I feel like a lot of hip hop is not original, I strive to make music that's true to me and true to my surroundings. I don't like following what's trending and what everyone else is going for. I just make what feels good, things that I can relate to. I'm not into making cheesy misleading music.

3. What influence has losing you father and grandparents played on who you are as a artist?

-Me losing my father and not being able to have grandparents were unfortunate for me, it's kind of bitter sweet because the pain within me from not having a father allows me to really express myself thru my lyrics and me not knowing my grandparents allows me to imagine what it would be like to have things I've never had. I really can't explain it but I make music that grandparents can listen to, it kinda feels like they're all watching me and that's what makes most of my lyrics so respectful probably ha.

4. What type of music do you listen to?

-I listen to a lot of oldies, I listen to the isley brothers, jeffrey osborne, all types of music. I also listen to kanye and jay and nas; but not too much cuz I don't want them to influence my music and then I lose my originality lol

5. What’s an interesting fact about you?

-Sometimes when I'm home watching tv I grab the remote control during commercials and use it as a microphone and secretly go over show sets.

So we got a call from our Homeboy Thomas from 215 Magazine saying that he Loved our Brand and that he wanted to interview us for Their website! This sounds simple enough... Doesn't it? Lol well it wasn't!!! We have been interviewed 3 times in all by Tom... Let me explain: The 1st interview he conducted was by paper and pen... Tom decided that he wanted to scrap that one and redo the interview but film it instead- We said DOPE! After months of schedule conflicts we finally got the second interview finished... But did we really??? Lol a few days Later I get a call from our Videographer (Cherese The Magnificent) Saying that the Footage was corrupted!!! Your Probably thinking "WOW" Lol Me too!!!

Well the good news is that we finally got the third one videoed and edited and its DOPE!!! Stay tuned as it shall be Released soon...

Sitting reflecting on quotes such as, "As long as you are doing something you love, you'll never work a day in your life..." Brings me to Abstract Thoughts of a 9 - 5'er...

Now some may or may not agree with what is said here, but I would never call my 9 - 5 @ Penn Medicine as a Consultant my real job... Hmmm... Let's just consider it my alternative supplement or a means to get me closer to my dream! Sometimes I sit and think why did I go to college when what I love to do does not require a degree and I can make money doing it.... oh yeah, that's it... to meet people and become more social!

Now these are just my thoughts and you might not agree... But if you are not happy at your "real job," find your passion. A quote came to me yesterday morning while driving to "work." "What they won't give you, TAKE... What's not made, CREATE..."

The most successfully satisfied are those who find themselves doing what they love to do...

Thinking back to one of the pioneers of the civil rights movement I wanted to acknowledge Malcolm X. Now some may be asking yourselves why am I taking this time out to acknowledge brotha Malcolm when its not black history month nor does he have a birthday coming up, yet it has everything to do with self reflection. Back in 07 “the genius” aka @BillyAbstract developed the shirt “By Any Means”. We took the familiar picture of brotha Malcolm holding the AK-47 peeping out the window and altered it to fit the Abstract Thought criteria. We debuted the shirts at the official launch of the brand in 2008, which also happened to be my (@DjAYEboogie) & @BillyAbstract bday event as well. Each shirt we develop has a strong central message behind it, therefore I wanted to take the time out to revist one of our strongest designs (Aside from that I just wanted to revisit one of the best nights of my life; 21st bday)

Kid Sublime, Amsterdam based producer, is a close friend of mine and an awesome producer. From the very first time I heard a track I was hooked. His music is a mixed of neo-soul and hip-hop. I had the opportunity to get in touch with him for a brief Q &A. So here ya go! Grrrrr!

1. What category of music would you place your works in?

-Everything I produce is soulful... from my house tracks, hip-hop tracks, and the ballads I write...so I guess its Soulmusic...

2. How is you music different from other in your genre?

-I do a lot of different things..House records, rap records, ballads...it's definitely funky and soulfull...the production has a basement edge to it, since my studio has been in a basement for 11 years..LOL!!

3. Wht is you creative process?

-On a production level...I usually go find a good record to work with, put it in my MPC 3000 and take it from there. I play a lot of keys, drums, and I sing the hooks.

On a songwriting level...the song kinda comes to me...while playing my piano. It feels like a spiritual thing to me.

4. What's something about you that your fans might not know?

-Ummm... I stopped smoking weed for 3 years!! LOL!!... I'm also working on my singer/songwriter album...just me and my piano.

5. As a musician who did you look up to from your childhood?

-Definitely Van Morrison, James Taylor, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis....man...tooo much!!!

6. What 2 tracks are the most played on your ipod?

-On my shuffle there a few albums now...alotta rap records to ride my bike to; Midnight Marauders (Tribe Called Quest), Stakes is High (Dela Soul), Doggy Style (Snoop), Daily Operation (GangStarr), and Sylk 130 (King Britt)

7. Who are some of the artist which you have worked with?

-Lady Alma, Camp Lo, Frank N Dank, Defari, illa Jay, Nicky Guilland from Heavy,U-Gene...

Anyone who knows me can attest to fact that I am a true Lupe Fiasco fan. So, when I heard that the 3rd Lp from Lp (Lol) was dropping it was definitely on my todo list to stop by the store and pick up my copy.

One word describes my feelings toward this album: Disappointed

Its clear to see that politics and business played a role in the making of this album when creativity was the driving force that fueled his previous two!!!

Either way I'm still a Lupe fan... He is hands down the greatest lyricist of this generation of hiphop!!!

I'm looking forward to the next album...
